Atal Bihari Vajpayee was the only non-congress leader who completed a full tenure as a Prime Minister. He took his last breath on Thursday evening at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences. He was the Prime Minister of India from 1998-2004. He was 93 and gradually his condition became progressively worse over the last 36 hours and he was put on life support systems. Even after the best of efforts, he is no more among us. The entire nation mourns at this great loss. He was admitted to AIIMS on 11th of June because of chest congestion and kidney tract infection. Mr. Vajpayee was a diabetic whose one kidney was functional. He suffered a stroke in the year 2009 which made his cognitive abilities week.
His state funeral will take place in the national capital on Friday(17th August). The last rites will take place at the Smriti Sthal quite close to Rajghat at 5 PM.
His body will be taken from his residence to the headquarters of BJB on the Deendayal Upadhyey Marg at 9 AM. The funeral procession of nearly 3-km to Smriti Sthal will begin at 1 PM. On this, the Union Cabinet announced the state mourning for seven days and for Central Government its a half day holiday on Friday(17th August).
Mr. Vajpayee became the Prime Minister of India thrice, 1996, 1998-1999 and 1999-2004. Since his health was deteriorating, he slowly withdrew from public life and was only confined to his residence for many years.
His demise is a great loss to our nation. He will be missed by one and all.
